Marble · Light Travertine

A warm limestone that reads in straight horizontal grain rather than veining. The open pores are filled and honed to a soft matte, so it stays quiet under lamplight instead of bouncing it back. This is the easiest of our stones to live with. It sits happily next to oak, boucle and brushed brass, and it takes the chill off a room that leans grey.

The piece

A 45 cm round top sitting on one turned column that widens slightly where it meets the floor. Nothing about it is complicated. The whole piece is cut from the same block, so the grain of the travertine carries straight from the foot up through the column and out across the top.

  • Round 45 cm top, edge hand-eased to a soft radius
  • Turned column base with a widened foot, cut from the same block
  • Felt-padded base to protect flooring
  • Each piece is unique; veining will differ from the photograph

Styling it

At 50 cm Pyla lands level with most sofa arms, so a cup stays where you put it without anyone reaching. It works beside a low sofa, and it is the piece to buy in a pair if you want matching bedsides.

Caring for Light Travertine

Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Because travertine is porous it is sealed before it leaves the workshop; re-seal every 12-18 months and blot spills rather than wiping them across the grain.
